5th Gear - Video

[Asami has waited a few days to post this, gotten through the initial emotional shock of it. Yes, Korra is fine, and she knows that. But she's not here, anymore. And if what she's heard about going home is true, she won't remember anything about being here.

When the video turns on, she looks a little weathered. Definitely tired, as she rests against the side of a giant Arcanine. She didn't cry this morning, that's a start.]

Korra's gone home.

[Asami pauses. She hasn't really thought out the post any further than that. Taking about this is more difficult than just stewing and processing.]

Just... thought her friends would like to know. If you ended up with any of her Pokémon, could you tell me? I'd just like to know, that's all.

[Ah... He's heard of these disappearances before, but it's never a pleasant thing to behold. Perhaps he's fortunate that he hasn't formed too many deep attachments. It's rather difficult to say.

That she looks so distraught is proof that the news has affected her deeply. At least, that's what he'd assume. So, before responding, he takes a few moments to puzzle over his words.]

I never met her, but you have my deepest condolences. I wish there was more I could say or do to help you. My experiences with loss are a bit... different than this.

[And by different he means death, something he'd hate to burden her with.]

Thank you. There... isn't really much to say or do, really. It's just a thing that you know is coming at some point, but... you never know when.

It's a shame. Some predictability would make it so much simpler to accept.

[It's difficult to face the possibility that any one of them could disappear before tomorrow. Within seconds, even.]

I suppose the best thing we can do is savor our time here and savor the connections we form while they last. Perhaps those who've left will even return someday.

[Though his experience with returnees is extremely limited.]

[She's honestly not so sure. Would they even bother meeting people and experiencing life here if they knew the expiration date?]

Most people don't come back. I don't know what makes them come back, but sometimes they remember and sometimes they don't. I wish I could really say why.

It's all right. Seems this world has its share of mysteries. The cycle of new arrivals, the Pokéballs, and those irritating ledges...

[The last one was his attempt at lightening the mood.]

I'd like to think there's some method to the madness, but the more time I spend here, the more I start to doubt it.

[Asami's downtrodden expression lightens, if only a hair.]

I like it when things have an explanation. When there's something to be delved into, discovered and solved. But the more time I spend here, the more I think it's just... completely random. Everything that happens.

I knew I was forgetting something!

I wonder if it's random, or if it's just needlessly complicated. The stubborn part of me wants to cling to the hope that there's some underlying logic. Some internal consistency...

[He heaves a heavy sigh. Wishful thinking, he supposes.]

I wonder if the professors have the answers, though that would require getting in touch with them...

I would think that if getting in touch with them were possible for us, someone would have managed it by now. It's funny, we have such powerful communication devices, but we're essentially cut off from the other areas of this world.

Nothing quite adds up. Not really.

[His brows lift ever so slightly before drawing low over his eyes. It's not too surprising, given what he's seen thus far.]

I wonder why that is. One would assume this technology was created by them, and as social as they seem, why not use it to communicate with fellow trainers?

It just seems odd to create these devices purely for our benefit.
