[HEY NOW. Envy gives her a grouchy look, then rolls his eyes and settles back in his chair.]
At least you know me.
Lust's number has some issue where it gets mis-dials a lot. She met my friend Henry when he was trying to call me about bananas in the middle of the night.
[The tiny black bead eyes and brown round head of a Sentret fills Asami's gear screen, before it's pulled back to reveal Korra's grinning face bent over the Pokemon. She's holding it in her lap, and she's changed into the clothes in her backpack.]
Look who joined us today! He doesn't have a name yet, but I think I'm getting the hang of this Pokemon thing.
[She's settled down for the night now, perfectly at ease camping out, even in the chill. Iqniq had a fire lit for them in no time.]
[ Asami's lying on her hotel bed, chin in hands and feet resting on her pillow when Korra's call comes in. She can't help a smile. She could honestly be content just watching Korra goof off with her newest addition. ]
Don't collect too many, you lose track pretty fast.
[ Says the girl with... four. ]
It's the same. Ecruteak is one of the quieter cities. Lots of art.
[ Asami's Flaafy comes over to settle next to her, instantly causing the side of her hair to stand up with static. This is so normal by now that she doesn't really mind. Especially with the current distraction. Korra's really here... ]
But I need to get started on being a champion Pokemon trainer! Gotta have Pokemon.
[Despite her grin and her teasing, easy words, there's something in Korra's eyes that's a little wistful. It's just the physical distance between them.]
Sounds nice. Cultural. I should be getting into Cherrygrove tomorrow, I've been taking...
[She can't help it. Her words are lost in a sudden spat of laughter as Asami's hair sprouts a frizzy halo. Is that one of those electric sheep she's been told about?]
[ That brought another little smile to Asami's face. Of course Korra wants to be the best. ]
[ She gets distracted at the outburst. ]
Wh...?
[ That's when she feels the tickle of her hair on her cheek and awkwardly lifts a hand to feel that a good portion of her hair is clinging to her Flaafy's wool. ]
Hey-
[ Asami can't help blushing as she makes an attempt to smooth her hair out. Unfortunately, as long as Flaafy is hanging out, there's nothing to be done for it. ]
She's so cute! You both are. [Blushing and desperately trying to tame her static-touched hair, Asami looks ridiculously kissable right now. Korra's been taking a slower pace than need be, to get a feel for this world and not tire Iqniq out, but it's time to speed things up.]
Is that one of those... Marpeeps? The lightning sheep somebody was telling me about.
[ Asami shoots Korra an amicably indignant glare. ]
This is a Flaafy. She's what you get when Mareep evolves. Pokémon do that, when they get more experienced. They change form completely and become more powerful.
Oh yeah, someone was telling me about evolution. And what I get to look forward to with Iqniq!
So are you guys just traveling around and seeing the world, or are you doing anything specific? I've been hearing a lot about Gym Challenges and stuff.
[And both seem like good things to do around here.]
[To make things easy, Korra sends the same video message to Asami, Elsa, and Anna.]
I have really ugly scarves for everybody.
[She holds up a jumbled handful of fuzzy colors, blue, red, and green dominant among them.]
There was this Pokemon who knitted a ton of scarves and she was so proud of them that her trainer broadcast a message about it asking if anyone wanted any. There were so many scarves, it's like all she does. So I grabbed us some, because a scarf knitting Pokemon is pretty cool, and they showed up today.
I do not expect anyone to wear them, but I was hoping we could get a picture with them on to show Shiruku. That's the Pokemon that knits. I can't stress how into knitting scarves this Pokemon is.
Iqniq's already claimed mine, clearly they make great gifts for Pokemon.
[And hey, ugly scarves are worth a laugh, plus it's a cute story. Korra thinks they can all use a laugh and something cute.]
Come get your very own, one of a kind, ugly scarf!
Getting up before Asami wasn't an easy thing, but Korra managed it. She slipped out quietly, holding her breath the whole time, hoping Asami wouldn't wake up before she was ready. Anybody else could, just not Asami.
The dates and things weren't quite the same, but they were close enough - and shared the same basic annual pattern - that Korra knew it was the other woman's birthday. She also knew that being here wasn't exactly the most fun thing ever for her girlfriend. How could it be? She was away from almost all her friends, her home, her company...
So Korra was determined to make this a particularly great day. Which was why she was already dressed and waiting cross legged at the foot of their bed with a breakfast tray and a bouquet of roses dyed to look like Pokeballs.
Asami, not used to Korra moving before she did, stirred lightly. But she didn't wake.
When her morning workout alarm finally went off at 7:30 (she was on a lax schedule, here), she lightly rubbed her eyes and sat up as she pushed her hair back out of her face.
Birthday celebrations had come from unconventional places for Asami these past few years. The Air kids threw her little parties to... varying degrees of success, and her employees always recognized it in some way, but the day also had a way of reminding her what (who) was missing.
So when Korra was sitting patiently at the foot of her bed, miraculously wide awake and fully dressed with breakfast and flowers, Asami broke into a grateful smile. Of course. Leave it to Korra.
"Korra..." She tipped her head to the side, her gaze affectionate and thankful.
Korra was beaming. This wasn't the best situation, but they could still make the most of it. They were together. She knew she hadn't been around, and that had taken a toll on the other woman, but she was here now. And she could give Asami a real birthday. It wasn't much, compared to all the things Asami was forced to leave behind, but it was something.
And sometimes the little things could mean a whole lot.
"I hope you don't have anything planned for today. Because I do."
"Well, I had a couple of ideas. But definitely dinner at The Bellossom Gardens, I got us reservations." It was a fancy place. The kind Korra herself rarely dined at, but she knew Asami appreciated. And today was a special day. It was Asami's day. She needed one. And Korra'd been saving up her battling money. There was starting to be more of it, lately.
"I was looking at the local events calendar, and there's an exhibit on the history of Pokeballs at a local museum, that sounds like something that could be neat. There's the local spa, they've got a whole bunch of things I don't even understand so it's probably really good. And there's the dance theater, they've got a couple of shows today." She pulled out her 'gear to check the specifics. Clearing her throat, she mimicked a radio announcer's pace of talking when describing the shows.
"We've got 'A Portrait of A Pidgeotto', the story of a blind Pidgeotto trainer and a tangled tragedy of unrequited love against the backdrop of war....." She trailed off there. "Okay that sounds like it's really sad." She pulled a face and shook her head, regretting not reading the summaries beforehand. Today was not a day for sad things. "Then there's 'The Twilight Ninetales', the magical tale of a struggling mountain berry farmer who rescues a wounded Ninetales that changes her life for the better. Or we could do...anything you wanted, really. Today's your day!"
Those were just things Korra thought Asami might particularly like to do.
[Elsa had woken up prepared for some kind of oddity. The past couple of fridays had been... weird. Not in a bad way, but she'd noticed a few strange behaviors on the network on each of those days; just enough for her to believe that something weird was going on.
So when today rolled around with no sign that something was off, she felt like she could finally breathe a sigh of relief. Even so, she can't help but pop in on all of her companions, just to make sure they were all okay. Which was why she was now knocking on Asami's door!]
